Amelia F. “Millice“ Theis Obituary (1948 - 2025)

Amelia F. "Millice" (Kopec) Theis, 77, a resident of Salem, CT, passed away peacefully at Hartford Hospital on Sunday, August 24, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Conrad L. Theis with whom she shared 44 years of marriage. She was born in Lowell on March 9, 1948, and was the daughter of the late Marion A. and Gladys T. (Maciejewski) Kopec. Millice was raised in Lowell, attended Holy Trinity Polish Church, was educated at St. Stanislaus School, graduated from Lowell High School and received her teaching degree from Lowell State Teachers College. Early childhood activities included her love for marching as Color Guard Captain of the PAV Drum & Bugle Corps., Lowell, and later joining the staff of the White Eagles Drum & Bugle Corps., Methuen as an instructor. Millice loved being a teacher, especially grades K - 6. She made her career as a Teaching Vice Principal at Parker Avenue Elementary, Dracut before retiring from the Greater Lowell area to reside in Connecticut. Her love for her Polish heritage extended to serving as a State President for the PAV Ladies Auxiliary and attending polka dances where she and Conrad met. After marrying, Millice and Conrad ran bus trips for many years to the Polish festivals where bands such as their favorites, Dick Pillar and Jimmy Sturr would perform. Millice had many interests and hobbies such as knitting and solving cross word puzzles. She was an avid fan of all N.E. sports teams but especially enjoyed watching the Red Sox and Patriots with her cousin Elaine and sister Carol. As a beloved member of the St. Joseph's Polish Society, Colchester CT, she worked whole heartedly for their Scholarship Committee. In addition to her loving husband, Amelia is survived by two sisters, Christine O'Neill, Carol Martin and her husband Mack, a niece Kathi O'Neill, two nephews, Matthew Martin, Kevin Martin and his wife Alejandra, a grandniece Bella Martin, step-family Diane Theis, Dan Theis, Joe Theis and his wife Pam, step-grandsons Ryan and Jake Theis, as well as several cousins. She is also survived by their life-long cherished friends always there to lend them a hand. Amelia was pre-deceased by stepson Michael Theis. Millice lived for and loved taking care of her Conrad. She will be remembered for being the kindest, most caring, loving, thoughtful person you'd ever have the privilege to know. She was known for being a great cook, especially her lasagna, carrot cake, and her amazing secret popcorn. If you were lucky enough to be loved by Millice, you were lucky enough! The families would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Millice and Conrad's dear friends for the care and support provided over many years. Many thanks for checking in on them regularly, running errands, providing rides, and just spending time with them. It was very comforting to know that you all were there when we couldn't be there.
