Claire P. (Levasseur) Montminy, age 82, passed away peacefully after a long illness on April 12, 2021, surrounded by her loving husband and children. She was the daughter of Peter and Emily (Richard) Levasseur.
A life-long resident of Lowell, she was educated in the Lowell school system and attended the Lowell Vocational School.
She was a communicant of the former Ste. Jeanne dArc Church and then St. Ritas Parish in Lowell.
At 14, she met her best friend and love of her life, Norman J. Montminy. They married in 1961 and would have celebrated their 60th anniversary this June. Together they built a loving family. She is survived by her daughter Linda L. DeJoie, and her husband John as well as her son Steven N. Montminy and his wife Sheila. She had two grandchildren and they were her greatest joy; her granddaughter Katharine V. Fuller and her husband Douglas, and her grandson Evan N. DeJoie.
Claire was employed at Raytheon for 34 years, working both in South Lowell and Andover, before her retirement. She had many friends there and stayed in touch with them long after her retirement. While her children were young, she worked for the Lowell School system so that she would be on the same schedule.
Claire enjoyed life to its fullest. She loved spending time with her family, friends and, even people she just met for the first time. She could go anywhere and find someone to strike up a conversation. Everyone who met her enjoyed her wit, friendliness, and sass. She enjoyed shopping, and bingo as well as traveling. She and her husband traveled to Hawaii, Cancun, Florida, and Las Vegas. They enjoyed spending time on Cape Cod. She never missed an opportunity to try something new.
Most of all she enjoyed her family. She bragged to everyone about her husband, children and grandchildren. Every life event was another opportunity to tell someone how great they were. She was a proud, generous and loving mother and grandmother.
Besides her husband and children, she is survived by two brothers; Roger Levasseur, Robert Levasseur and his wife Elaine, and a sister, Lorraine Levasseur; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters; Florence McCann, Loretta Lajoie, and Jeanne Limacher.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank Dr. Nicholas Hill and his team at Tufts Medical Center, who spent the last 13 years treating her. Their dedication to her care was incredible and allowed her to have many more enjoyable years. We would also like to thank Rosemary for her friendship and support. To the many friends and family who called and visited over the past few months, we want you to know that she cherished the time you spent with her.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at the Dracut Funeral Home on Thursday April 15, 2021 from 4 - 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 16, 2021 at 10AM at St. Ritas Church in Lowell. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford.
