Richard S. Pickard, age 59, a longtime resident of Lowell, passed away peacefully at Lowell General Hospital on Sunday, January 28, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Lowell on January 11, 1965 and was the beloved husband of Sophia Kefaleas.
Richard and Sophia met 30 years ago on a blind date and have not left each others side since. They were married in Las Vegas on May 28th, 2002. Richard loved vacationing in Key West Florida, especially driving over the 7-mile bridge and taking in the sites with his wife. They also loved going to the Nubble lighthouse in Maine. Richard worked for the City of Lowell Wastewater Department for 20 years, where he was a dedicated employee and never turned down an opportunity to work overtime. He owned & operated Scotts towing as a second full time job until his son, Scott and brother, Robert, joined him, selling the business in 2017 to spend more time with his family.
Richard was a dedicated Father to his son, Scott with whom he shared a love of towing and fishing. He is also survived by Sophias children whom he helped raise, Katie Arcand and her husband Brian, and Nick Spanos and his wife Rachael. Richard took pride in being a grandfather to his 4 grandchildren, Cameron Arcand, Jonathan and Benjamin Spanos and Oaklynn Kefaleas, who he called Pretty. Richard also leaves his twin brother and best friend Robert, his wife Joann, and their two daughters, Kristine and Sarah who was also his goddaughter; his brother and sister-in-law, George and Sandi Kefaleas; his Yorkshire terrier, Cody; and many aunts, uncles, and close friends.
He was predeceased by his loving in-laws who took Richard in as their own, Nicholas and Joyce Kefaleas, and his beloved pets Caesar and Maggie, who we know met him in heaven.
