Rita Phylis LeMay

Rita Phylis (Wood) LeMay 98, a long-time Dracut resident passed away peacefully of natural causes on October 23, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.

Rita was born on August 8, 1923 in Henniker, N.H. to the late Roby H. and Dolly Wood.

She shared 62 years of marriage with the love of her life, Robert E. LeMay until his death on March 7, 2006.

Rita wore many hats. She was a professional seamstress. Starting out at the boot mills in Lowell sewing parachutes for our Military in WWII. She also worked at Hathaway Shirts and Richard's Shoe.

She was active in the Dracut PTA along with her beloved daughter in law Jane. Along with her sewing, she was an avid reader and she loved to knit and crochet. Making afghans, baby blankets, clothing and beautiful sweaters. On birthdays she had her signature cake, a yellow cake with chocolate whipped cream frosting. A tradition that will live on.

Rita and Robert first started their retirement traveling in their motor home. Visiting relatives in Connecticut, North Carolina, Tennessee and Florida. After a few years they purchased mobile homes in Old Orchard Beach, Maine and Cape Canaveral, Florida. Rita was still traveling to Cape Canaveral every winter until 2 years ago. They both shared a love for the ocean.

Rita is survived by her five children; Robert E. Lemay Jr. of Dracut whose wife of nearly 60 years, Mary Jane (Sawyer) recently passed, Raymond J. Lemay and his wife Christina of Cape Canaveral, Florida, Carol A. and her husband Eugene Saucier of Dracut, Catherine A. Ayotte of Cape Canaveral, Florida and Maurice Lemay also of Dracut who was an amazing caregiver for the last few years.

Rita is leaving quite a legacy. 13 Grandchildren, 35 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great Great Grandchildren. All who will carry on with her life of love and family.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 9-10:30 am at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Ave., DRACUT. A brief prayer service will follow the visitation at 10:45 am. Interment in Oakland Cemetery Dracut.
